A Laurel woman has been arrested in connection with the death of Antwon Conyers, 32, of New Carrollton, while police search for the man who allegedly shot him.
Ann Arundel County Police said Rakia Denise Talley, 46, was taken into custody Friday, two days after Conyers was shot in Russet Green East in Laurel. He has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and several firearms offenses.
Tally is represented by a public defender and is being held without bond.
Police announced Monday that they are searching for Christopher Rojas, 27, of Laurel, who they believe shot Conyers.
Shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, officers and paramedics found Conyers lying on the side of the road suffering from at least one gunshot wound. According to court filings, he had several cartridge cases on the ground.
Video surveillance obtained by police shows Conyers walking along Russet Green East when a gray Nissan Altima pulls up to him. An eyewitness told police that he saw a man get out of the car and shoot Conyers with a handgun. From the footage, investigators were able to link the vehicle with Tally, a “close personal aide” of Rojas.
The day before Conyers’ death, police met Rojas near Russet Green East after the 27-year-old had reported her car stolen. Talley was with Rojas when he accused someone matching the description of the Conyers’ stolen vehicles.
The next morning, 10 minutes before the shooting began, Rojas and Talley were seen at an unnamed business near the intersection of Russet Green East and Laurel Fort Mead Roads, where Rojas had found his vehicle in the parking lot. While he was inquiring about the vehicle, according to charging documents, he saw Coors walking nearby, and said he was going to shoot him.
Police said Rojas and Talley entered the Altima, Talley was behind the wheel, and drove in the direction of the Conyers. According to charging documents, Connors was killed less than six minutes later and less than 300 meters from the business.
Police have an active warrant out against Rojas and ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call 410-222-4731 or the tipline at 410-222-4700.
