Apple is about to hold its biggest event of the year: the iPhone launch.
However, this year it will bring several new products, including watches and AirPods.
And those products may be notable for their ports as well as any new features they bring, as Apple is widely expected to finally make a long-rumored shift away from the classic Lightning connector. Will do.
Here’s everything Apple is expected to show off at the September 12 event it’s calling “Wanderlust.”
iPhone 15 – four of them
It’s been quite a while since only one iPhone was introduced during an iPhone event, and these days Apple seems to be settling for a fairly reliable line-up of four. This year that means there should be an iPhone 15, an iPhone 15 Plus, an iPhone 15 Pro, and an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Beyond the obvious difference in size, the two larger phones are generally similar to their smaller counterparts, and those sizes should be the same as the iPhone 14 line-up at 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches. However this year there will be a slight difference between the Pro and Pro Max.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have a lot more minor upgrades, bringing it mostly in line with the existing iPhone 14 Pro. According to rumors, it will have dynamic island and faster chip.
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will get a more meaningful upgrade. They will include a new chip in the form of A17, an action button instead of a mute switch, and camera improvements.
The camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max will get its own additional feature: a periscope camera. That technology has already arrived with some competitors and means a longer lens can be folded into a smaller space, allowing additional zoom capabilities, although it won’t fold so short that it’s smaller. Can fit in the phone.
And all of those iPhones will switch to USB-C instead of the Lightning port that’s been on phones for more than a decade. It remains to be seen whether this will immediately add new capabilities, and the last time Apple switched connectors it caused quite a stir given the need to purchase new cables and peripherals.
apple watch series 9
The Apple Watch Series 9 is also expected to have fairly minor upgrades. It will get a new processor which will make it faster, but from outside it will remain the same, in the same design.

This upgrade could be the first major upgrade inside the iPhone in the last few years. In addition to making the watch run faster, it can also improve its battery life.
The Apple Watch Ultra – which was first introduced last year – is also going to get its own upgrade. They are also likely to be limited.
It will get all the upgrades over the regular version of the Apple Watch, such as its improved processor. Rumors also suggest that it may be lighter and come in a new, darker color.
AirPods
In recent days, rumors have suggested that Apple may also launch new AirPods Pro. It’s unclear whether this is simply a port change to match the iPhone, or something more significant.
It also remains to be seen whether Apple will offer that case itself, or require people to buy a new set of AirPods to get it. The AirPods Pro case has wireless charging, so even people with older versions can theoretically power their iPhone and earphones from the same charger.
other items
The switch away from the Lightning port doesn’t just affect the iPhone and AirPods. There are several other devices that still use that port: the AirPods Max, Apple’s Mac peripherals like its keyboards and trackpads, and one of the iPads.
Apple may use this event to announce that they will be making all the changes as well. Or it could wait until more relevant events: for example, the iPad launches for tablets, and the Mac launches for keyboards and other accessories.
headset
The headset was unveiled at Apple’s last major event, the Worldwide Developers Conference, in June. Apple has been largely quiet about it since then – and developers who have been using it since then have been sworn to secrecy.
The headset won’t arrive until early next year. But Apple will definitely use this event to remind people that it’s coming, and maybe even deliver some updates.
(One potential surprise for the iPhone would be that it could capture three-dimensional images and video that could be viewed in a headset, and that was a key part of Apple’s demo. It certainly makes sense that This may be coming to some iPhones in the future.)
Wonder?
Apple is famous for presenting surprises at the end of its events. But in reality, they’re actually quite rare – especially these days, and especially at iPhone events where Apple wants to make sure the focus is on its biggest products.
So undoubtedly there is a possibility of a big surprise. But this seems unlikely, given how action-packed the event already is.
