According to Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Artificial Intelligence is on the brink of permanently altering the way computers are utilized.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Gates, in a blog post on Thursday, imparted some of his prognostications for the future, as AI becomes increasingly pervasive. According to Gates, over the next five years, there will be no more reliance on disparate apps for distinct tasks; instead, users will simply issue everyday language commands to their phone or computer, and it will respond to their needs.
Gates expounds, “In the near future, anyone connected to the internet will be able to access a highly advanced artificial intelligence-powered personal assistant.”
Gates refers to this software as an “agent” capable of carrying out tasks based on its understanding of the user as an individual.
“Agents will not just revolutionize the way everyone engages with computers; they will also drive a monumental transformation in the software industry, comparable to the shift from typing commands to interacting with icons,” remarks Gates.
The key to enabling agents to function effectively is their capacity to understand the user as an individual. The more they learn about the user, the better they can predict their needs and assist them in achieving their goals.
“They are proactive—capable of proffering suggestions before being asked. They operate across a range of applications,” Gates states. “They enhance their performance over time as they recollect the user’s activities and discern intentions and patterns in their behavior. Based on this insight, they offer to provide what they believe the user requires, although the final decision will always rest with the user.”
Gates’ post delves into his vision for how AI will reshape the healthcare industry, education, productivity, entertainment, and more.
Gates envisions AI becoming an increasingly integral part of every facet of our lives.
“Agents will be capable of aiding in virtually any activity and domain of life,” Gates emphasizes. “In the technology sector, we speak about platforms – the frameworks on which apps and services are constructed. Android, iOS, and Windows all function as platforms. Agents will be the next platform.”
