Owner Elon Musk blamed the number of bots on the platform for the proposal, suggesting he could introduce a “small monthly payment” for all users.
The tech tycoon has made several changes since taking over the network for $44 billion (€41 billion) in October last year.
He has fired thousands of employees, introduced a pay option for verification, removed content moderation and reinstated previously banned accounts, including that of former US President Donald Trump.
In July, he reported that the platform had lost nearly half of its advertising revenue.
Bots – accounts run by computer programs rather than humans – are common on Facebook, where they can be used to artificially amplify political messages or fan the flames of racial hatred.
In an interview with Musk on Monday, the Israeli Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu Raised the issue of online anti-Semitism.
“I hope you will find the ability (at X) to stop anti-Semitism or roll back it as much as possible,” Netanyahu told the X president.
The Prime Minister said, “I know you are committed to fighting any collective hatred towards people who are targeted by anti-Semitism and I hope you will succeed. This is no easy task, but I encourage you to “I encourage you to create a balance.” The United States heads to the United Nations General Assembly this week.
Elon Musk responded that he cannot stop all hate messages from being published on X. He said the company is “moving toward a smaller monthly payment for the use of System X”.
“It’s the only way I can think of to fight huge armies of robots,” he said. “Because the cost of a robot is a fraction of a cent – call it a penny – but if someone has to pay a few dollars, even a nominal amount, the effective cost of the robot is much higher.
“And then whenever you have a new bot you also have to have a new payment method.”
