Liverpool’s owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has made a huge statement by committing itself to a summer transfer overhaul despite calls for new investment in the club.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled massively this season and currently sit in 10th place with slim hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Many have pointed to a lack of investment on the pitch, which along with the sale of their best player, Sadio Mane, are two big reasons why they are underperforming.
It is clear that the Reds need to improve their squad, especially in the midfield area, and according to a recent report in The Times that is set to happen this summer.
It added that Liverpool are set for a ‘massive transfer overhaul’ which would represent a “statement of commitment from FSG” as they put the club up for sale in November.
The news could mean the American owners are hoping to remain in charge as they can only attract offers for a minority stake in the Merseyside giants.
‘No firm bid’ for the club
Although they announced their intention to sell earlier, Liverpool did not receive as much interest from potential investors as their rivals Manchester United.
This could explain FSG’s reasoning behind wanting to invest further on the pitch this summer.
According to The Athletic, the Reds have received ‘no concrete bids’ and three months into the process there is still not much interest.
The report added: “If we compare Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) attempt to sell Liverpool to the sale of a house, it might be time to try a different estate agent. Because three months and . .. No firm bid, not much discussion.”
Whether or not FSG remains in control of Liverpool, it is important that the club manager keeps Klopp in check.
Recent reports suggested he could overcome his poor campaign but the German manager insists he is the man to turn things around.
One potential new arrival that could help bridge the gap is teen sensation Jude Bellingham.
Liverpool are interested in bringing the England international to Anfield following his breakout performance at the World Cup in Qatar.
However, he will face competition for his signature from Real Madrid and Manchester City, who may also be more likely to offer Champions League football.
The next few months are huge for the Reds and will go a long way in defining their long-term future.
