The most awaited day of the year is on its way to London.
The final for 2024 League of Legends World Championship has been confirmed to occur at the O2 Arena in London, England, as declared by Riot Games.
Set for November 2, the Worlds 2024 finals will be held earlier than the previous year, at the iconic London venue. This news also likely indicates that the 2024 Worlds will be held in Europe unless Riot opts for a global tour!
“It’s with great excitement that we bring the World Finals to the UK for the first time,” stated Naz Aletaha, Global Head of LoL Esports. “The World Championship is a global celebration of top-tier League of Legends gameplay, and London’s rich history and modern metropolis provide the perfect setting for our game’s grandest stage. The incredible passion and energy of the fans in London observed during the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational were truly remarkable, and we eagerly anticipate their presence at the O2, where our finalists will walk the same stage as many of the icons who came before them.
As mentioned earlier by Aletaha, London had hosted the Mid-Season Invitational earlier in the year, although it was held in the smaller Copper Box Arena. The event garnered significant popularity among local fans and those tuning in from home, largely due to the enthusiastic UK crowd. With the O2 being capable of accommodating up to 20,000 fans, anticipations are for even larger and boisterous crowds at the 2024 Worlds.
The importance of London hosting the Worlds was significant enough to warrant a comment from the Mayor of London, who, being a prominent politician with numerous responsibilities, took the time to express his thoughts.
“London is a major hub for eSports, and it’s truly exciting that we will be hosting the League of Legends World Championship final next year,” noted London Mayor Sadiq Khan. “It will bring together e-sports enthusiasts from across the globe and also showcase our capital’s state-of-the-art gaming industry. I will continue to extend my support for the growth and advancement of esports in London as we strive to build a better London for everyone.”
Details regarding ticket sales for the final will be disclosed closer to the event.
While Worlds itself is undoubtedly a major occurrence, another high-profile eSports event is on the agenda for London in 2024. BLAST, the tournament organizers, had previously revealed their plans to host a top-level CS2 tournament at Wembley Arena.
It’s worth noting that this announcement was made during the 2023 World Finals held in South Korea. The opening ceremony featured the inaugural performance of the virtual band Heartsteel, an achievement that demanded extensive effort from Riot Games.
