A rare example of the world’s fastest road car has come up for auction with an asking price of £4.3m.
The used Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ is being sold in the US by Bonhams, where it will go on sale on January 25 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
It is one of 30 “hypercars” that were built in a limited production run.
Petrolheads revere this car for breaking the 300 mph barrier at the Ehra-Lessien racetrack in Germany five years ago. It achieved a record-breaking top speed of 304.77 mph.
This was partly achieved through a series of single modifications, which included changes to the two-door vehicle’s chassis, engine system, ride height and interiors.
The car has a 16-cylinder, eight-liter engine with four turbochargers, producing a claimed 1,577 horsepower. A Ford Focus has about 180 horsepower.
Bugatti claims production versions of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ are capable of hitting 300 mph, but the company electronically limits the top speed to 273 mph – yet it’s unquestionably the world’s fastest One of the fastest road cars.
These were originally sold by the French luxury carmaker for around £3m each.
According to Bonhams, the car being auctioned has only 255 miles on the clock, 250 of which were driven by Bugatti while testing the vehicle.
Bonhams estimated it would be worth up to £5.5 million (£4.3 million), after another car – which had covered more than five times the miles – sold for around £4.2 million in an auction run by Sotheby’s .
Production of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ will end in 2022.
In the auction listing, the car is described by Bonhams as one of only seven built in the US and “the fastest hyper sports car ever made by Bugatti”.
The listing states: “The combination of the display and its design is uncanny and can be appreciated equally as a work of art or for its warp speed capabilities.”
The car has a black exterior with orange markings, as well as a black carbon fiber interior and leather seats.
It is equipped with a tracking system that lets Bugatti monitor its location at all times to prevent thieves.
