Wilovik recently requested the Lake County Commissioner to assist with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for Fairway Boulevard emergency repairs to storm sewers and traffic signals throughout the city, and a generator for the community center.
The city also recently learned that Euclid passed legislation last October raising sewer rates by 25%, effective early January.
Mayor Michael Vanni said, “Vilovic was expecting Euclid to increase sewer rates, but not to this extent and without prior communication from Euclid.”
According to Finance Director Cheryl Benedict, this is an increase of approximately $500,000 for the city. Vanni requested a finance committee meeting to discuss the rate increase, and the group authorized Vanni to circulate the city’s formal objection to the Euclid sewer rate increase.
Vanni plans to meet with Euclid Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gale to discuss the rate hike. Another Finance Committee meeting is scheduled for February 14.
In April 2022, two items were placed on the United Survey 2022 Lateral Program agenda: the storm sewers of Forestgrove Road and Fairway Boulevard. Vanni said the city hopes to continue making sewer and road improvements in the future.
“We are always taking care of our sewers and roads, so improving infrastructure is a high priority,” he said.
Vanni previously reported that Vilovic is in a better position financially than in 2021. The city has seen some major revenue growth in real estate taxes and also provides funding from renting out industrial property.
“Revenues are up, but you always have to make sure the money is being spent properly and make sure the budget is balanced every year,” Vanni said.
