TOPEKA, Kansas – On Tuesday, Kansas Lottery officials announced that the winnings of a $1 million Powerball prize were claimed.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to Corey Thon of the Kansas Lottery, the lucky Powerball ticket was purchased by a person from Johnson County. The ticket was sold at the QuikTrip store near Overland Park, at the intersection of 135th Street and Antioch Road.
The winning numbers were 47, 54, 57, 60, 65, and the red powerball was 19.
Although the resident of Johnson County has claimed the $1 million prize, the amount he will receive in cash will not be that much. Thon explained that winners of the $1 million prize receive the money in a single payment, as the annuity option is only applicable for jackpot winners.
Individuals who win more than $5,000 through the Kansas Lottery have 5% of the cash withheld for state taxes, which exceeds the federally mandated 24%. This means that the winner will have to pay $290,000 in taxes, leaving them with $710,000.
In September, another Kansas Lottery winner in the south-central region of the state also purchased a $1 million ticket, which remains unclaimed.
Currently, the Powerball jackpot stands at over $1.73 billion. The previous Powerball jackpot exceeded $1 billion in the summer of 2023, ultimately reaching an estimated $1.602 billion. The winner of that prize recently came forward to claim the money in Florida.
Earlier this year, several Kansans won significant prizes through the lottery. In January 2023, a resident of Johnson County won a $92 million jackpot ticket.
